Abstract
The theory of surface virial series is applied to adsorption on a homogeneous solid. Explicit results are given for the Lennard-Jones 12-6 and 9-3 potentials and for the square-well potential with different energies for the solid-gas and gas-gas interaction. The residual spreading pressure and residual adsorption are introduced as quantities which, unlike the Henry constant and the adsorption itself, do not depend on the exact location of the Gibbs dividing surface between the solid and the gas. Both density and activity series are discussed and the results for the density profile are also given. Keywords
