Laboratory Studies of Microplitis croceipes, a Braconid Parasite of Heliothis Spp.123

Abstract
The time required for M. croceipes (Cresson), parasitic in the tobacco budworm, Heliothis virescens (F.), to develop from oviposition through the pupal stage ranged from 28.3±2.0 days at 20°C to 14.5±1.0 days at 32.2°C; none held at 35°C completed the pupal stage. All parasites reared at 15°C and some of those reared at 20°C disposed in the pupal stage. Emergence of diapausing individuals took as much as 58 days and was 39% successful when the cocoons were moved to 25°C compared with 40 days and 58% when they were held at 30°C. A temperature of 30°C was thus the most economical for rearing. At that temperature, development from egg to adult took 14.5±1.2 days, and 91% of the pupae became adults.
