Investigations on the Metabolism of Fluoride

Abstract
A comparison was made of blood and urinary fluoride concns. in 2 populations whose water supplies contain 0.06 and 1.36 ppm. fluoride, resp. As the fluoride concn. of the water supply is increased from 0.06 to 1.36 ppm. (23-fold increase), the avg. urinary fluoride concn. increases from 0.06 to 1.12 ppm. (19-fold increase). The avg. blood fluoride concn. increased 3-fold, from 0.014 to 0.040 ppm. A max. blood fluoride concn. of 0.1 ppm. was found for each population. It was concluded that the higher concn. of fluoride in the water supply does not produce dangerously high blood fluoride concns.
