Adsorption, migration, and superlattice formation of benzene on Pd(110)

Abstract
Adsorption, surface migration, and superlattice formation of c(4×2)-benzene molecules on Pd(110) have been studied by scanning tunneling microscopy at the temperature range from 100 to 300 K. The adsorption site of benzene is determined to be a fourfold hollow site of the Pd(110)(1×1) surface. Above ∼220 K benzene molecules start to migrate on the surface, and the migration barrier along [001] is estimated to be about 0.57 eV (55 kJ mol1). © 1996 The American Physical Society.
