Abstract
The paper presents some empirical evidence on the impact of foreign investment on the industrial geography of Scotland. Issues of short‐term impact are highlighted by examining the ownership pattern in the New Towns: while longer‐run issues, the major concern of the paper, are assessed by studying selected characteristics of American and European investment in Scotland. The authors conclude by posing some of the implications for regional policy. Keywords
