Abstract
The article presents a methodology for analyzing the montage structure of television programs. The methodology was developed by Christian Metz and originally used in the analysis of films. The results of an analysis of three episodes of Lou Grant are reported, revealing similarities among the montage structures of the episodes. These data are then compared to an episode of an action‐adventure television series as an example of the comparative value of the methodology. Keywords
