Abstract
The production of lysine by B. lactofermentum (ATCC 21086) was studied in shake flasks and a 7.5-l fermentor. Lysine, residual glucose, cell counts and dissolved O2 were measured as a function of fermentation time. The effects of casamino acid, soy peptone, certain amino acids, glucose and agitation on the production rate and the yield was investigated. By reducing any one of the variables, an appreciable decrease in lysine production rates and yields occurred. Plots of rate and d (log lysine)/dt were made to find the relationship between the rate of lysine production and the other factors. Plotting d (log lysine)/dt vs. lysine may be the most suitable method of comparing production rates. A mathematical expression was derived which approximately fits the lysine production rates. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
