When You Only Live Twice

Abstract
A 22-year-old man was apparently in good health until, suddenly and without warning, he lost consciousness in the back seat of a car. The patient was rushed to a nearby clinic, where he was found to be apneic and to have no pulse. Electrocardiographic monitoring revealed ventricular fibrillation. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was carried out, and after repeated direct-current shocks, sinus rhythm was restored. The patient was hospitalized.The causes of sudden death are many and are usually presented in double-page, small-print tables in textbooks.
