Abstract
Computerized tomography (CT) in a pathologically proven case of acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis (AHL) showed a mass effect and increased absorption coefficient in the right hemisphere within 18 hours of the onset of neurological symptoms. The changes corresponded to the site of white matter edema, necrosis, and petechial hemorrhages demonstrated postmortem. The early changes on CT reflect the hyperacute nature of AHL and differ from those of herpes simplex encephalitis. Keywords
