Abstract
The Japanese anchovy Engraulis japonica H. was reared from egg to adult stage in order to determine the life cycle time course and the initial larval growth rate. The uncultured brood stock spawned eggs spontaneously at smaller size than natural fish and this took less than one year. Daily growth increment ranged from 0.41 to 0.62 mm for the first 55 days after hatching. No clear relationship was observed between daily growth rate and various rearing conditions such as cumulative temperature, rearing season, and source of parental fish. Daily growth increment obtained in the rearing experiment was comparable to that observed in a wild anchovy populations. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
