BILATERAL INCOMPLETE TRAUMATIC OCCLUSION OF INTERNAL CAROTID ARTERIES

Abstract
A case is reported of the rare entity of bilateral partial traumatic occlusion of the internal carotid arteries with patient survival. The clinical and pathophysiologic aspects of this condition are discussed. We postulate that the partial, rather than complete, vessel occlusion in this case was due to intramural hematoma associated with rupture of vasa vasorum without intimal tear.
