Abstract
A microcomputer-based simulation model is described which was developed to aid in the planning of future berth requirements at a third-world port. The port handles a variety of incoming and outgoing cargoes, using a mixture of specialized and general berths. Some of the complications of the ship-to-berth allocation rules are described, and how they were modelled. The help that the model provided to the consultants is briefly outlined. Keywords
