Abstract
A quality control program for hematology is described, based on assurance of accuracy by means of initial calibration of instruments and equipment, and also daily rechecks of calibration. Statistical analysis of 3 series of duplicate tests each day provides an evaluation of precision. Correlation of quantitatively related tests, by means of the routine calculation of mean corpuscular constants and the estimation of total leukocyte counts and platelet population, results in detection or recognition of random errors before reports are issued. Statistical analysis of mean corpuscular constants for all normal blood specimens from each day''s tests provides a cross-check on accuracy and also precision. The method is applicable to the evaluation of the individual workers and remote laboratories. Keywords
