Electron energy calibration in the Culham crossed-beams experiments: a reply to the letter of Mark and de Heer

Abstract
Mark and de Heer suggest that the energy scale of the present authors' recent investigation of ionisation of He, C, N and O atoms should be adjusted by as much as 2 eV to bring the He results into agreement with the static gas target data of Rapp and Englander-Golden (1965). This hypothesis is not substantiated by the measurements of apparent contact potentials presented here but it is acknowledged that the disagreement with Rapp and Englander-Golden is less certain than was previously stated.
