Abstract
The ability of human carbonic anhydrases to interact with human HbCO were studied with the counter-current distribution technique in aqueous/aqueous biphasic systems. Human carbonic anhydrase II interacted with human HbCO; human carbonic anhydrase I does not. The interaction between HbCO and carbonic anhydrase II was quantified using the theoretical model developed previously for 1-to-1 interacting systems [Backman, L. and Shanbhag, V.P., 1979]. The apparent association constant for association of carbonic anhydrase II and HbCO was estimated to be 4.1 .times. 105l mol-1 and pH 8.0 and 21.degree. C.
