Abstract
Diffractive dissociation of 500 GeV/c π − mesons into di-jets from carbon and platinum targets is used to measure the momentum distribution of quarks in the pion and study color transparency effects. The measurements used data from Fermilab experiment E791. The results show that the |qq̄〉 light-cone asymptotic wave function describes the data well for Q 2 ∼10 ( GeV/c ) 2 or more. Evidence for color transparency comes from a measurement of the A-dependence of the yield of the diffractive di-jets.
