The quadrupole interaction in zinc metal

Abstract
The 93.3 keV level of 67 Zn, with 9.1 μsec half‐life, has a natural fractional linewidth of 10−15, and provides the narrowest Mossbauer resonance yet observed. Our past investigations of 67 Zn have been based on the observation of resonances using an enriched ZnO absorber, with sources made by diffusing 67Ga into sintered pills of zinc chalcogenides. Sintered copper hosts have also been used, and natural sphalerite has been employed, in one instance, as an absorber.
