Abstract
The major field gradient directions for Cl in para‐chlorophenol as determined by NQR and x‐ray diffraction are compared quantitatively, and found to agree. The minor field gradient directions are examined qualitatively, and are consistent with those predicted on the basis of Cl–C partial double bonding. From a measurement of the field gradient asymmetry parameter η, the degree of chlorine—carbon double bonding is calculated to be 0.038±0.004.Keywords
