Hypoglycemia Associated with Aberrant Insulinoma: A Case Report of 16 Years Follow-Up

Abstract
A case of hypoglycemia resulting probably from aberrant islet cell tumor which appeared after removal of the spleen is reported. The case was followed-up for 16 yr. During the clinical course, 2 operations of the pancreas for searching lesions causing hypoglycemia were performed but failed to find a tumor. The autopsy revealed an aberrant islet cell tumor in the retroperitoneal adipose tissue. The tumor was composed of neoplastic cells containing moderate to large nuclei and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. The relation of hypoglycemia to the aberrant islet cell tumor was discussed.
