Abstract
Some features of the electrodeposition of metals caused by cathodic inhibition under actual conditions of electrolysis have been considered. It has been shown that inhibition of the cathode surface can occur in the process of electrolysis and can produce a decisive effect both upon the reduction rate of the metal ions and upon the structure of the deposit. Analysis of the experimental data showed that, in principle, there is no difference between the mechanism of electrodeposition of metals deposited on the cathode with low and high overvoltage, the different values of overvoltage being closely connected with different degrees of inhibition. In order to facilitate the reduction of the metal ions on the cathode, conditions should be created such that inhibition during electrolysis is minimized. Keywords
