Abstract
An emanation apparatus with a simple operational procedure for essay of 226Ra in the picocurie range of aqueous samples has been developed. The flush gas is recycled through the sample and a liquid nitrogen cooled trap. About 100% of the radon is retained in the trap from which it is successively released by heating and flushed with helium to a 50 cm3 alpha scintillation counter. The counting efficiency of the apparatus is 2.61 ± 0.14 counts/min/pCi radon and the background counting rate 0.08 counts/min. A 1 l. sample of water or 10 g amounts (corresponding to kilogram amounts wet weight) of ashed animal or vegetable materials may be analyzed by this procedure. Keywords
