Profiles of Clinical Efficacy and Pharmacological Action of Zotepine

Abstract
Zotepine, a new neuroleptic drug synthesized in Japan has unique profiles in the treatment for schizophrenic patients, such as a low incidence of extrapyramidal symptoms and a biphasic effect; activation and sedation. It also shows unique pharmacological actions. The author discussed the relationship between its clinical efficacy and pharmacologial actions. Recently zotepine has been reported to have an antimanic effect. The author also demonstrated our recant study on the antimanic drugs including zotepine and discussed the importance of the role of serotonin-2 receptor in their antimanic effect. Zotepin ist ein neues, in Japan synthetisiertes Neuroleptikum mit einem einzigartigen Wirkungsprofil bei der Behandlung schizophrener Patienten, wie geringe Häufigkeit extrapyramidaler Symptome und einer biphasischen Wirkung, nämlich, Aktivierung und Sedierung. Auch die pharmakologischen Wirkungen sind bemerkenswert. Der Verfasser diskutiert die Beziehungen zwischen der klinischen Wirksamkeit und der pharmakologischen Wirkung. Von Zotepin wurde sogar kürzlich eine antimanische Wirkung berichtet. Der Verfasser berichtet ebenfalls über seine kürzliche Studie über antimanische Pharmaka einschließlich Zotepin und diskutiert die Bedeutung der Rolle der Serotonin-2-Rezeptoren hinsichtlich ihrer antimanischen Wirkung.
