THE FREI TEST FOR LYMPHOGRANULOMA INGUINALE

Abstract
In discussing a paper on lymphogranuloma inguinale presented by DeWolf and Van Cleve1before the Section on Dermatology and Syphilology at the meeting of the American Medical Association in 1932, Weidman called attention to the fact that practically nothing was known of the nature of the antigen. In addition to this, nothing is known of the exact nature of the reaction itself. Because of its similarity to the tuberculin test and the trichophyton test the assumption is made that it is due to a reaction between the specific antigen obtained from infected tissues or pus from the abscesses, and antibodies. We report the results of a short series of experiments that may shed some light on the nature of the Frei reaction. These experiments are few because of the small amount of material and therefore it is hoped that they will be confirmed by future work. The cases used
