Abstract
The increases in pressure in the thoracic and abdominal cavities when pushing, pulling and stooping to lift hove been measured in 16 male and 15 female young adults. The greatest pressure increases in the largest number of subjects occurred when pushing, and least pressure changes occurred when pulling. It is suggested that changes in intratruncal pressures may be used as an index of the magnitudes of forces acting on the trunk during working manoeuvres. Keywords
