Abstract
The spectrum of the light scattered from macromolecular solutions in benzene is studied by the technique of photon beating spectroscopy. The macromolecules studied are polystyrene of molecular weights 8.4 x 106 and 24 x 106 daltons, the radius of gyration are respectively 1 900 Å and 3 600 Å. The study at different transfer vector K allows us to observe : - at low KR values (< 0.8) the translational diffusion coefficient ; - at high KR values (> 4.4) the macromolecular interna1 motions. In this case, the observed spectral profile corresponds to that predicted theoretically [1]. The measured characteristic time τ, independent of the macromolecular weight, varies with K vector as τ-1 + AK2.85±0.05 The value of the exponent, smaller than the theoretical prediction [1,2], is consistent with dynamical exponents found elsewhere [3]Keywords
