Abstract
Summary: Dual precipitin lines regularly occur in double diffusion analysis of hapten specific immune systems. The precipitin line closer to the antigen well represents spontaneous antigen-antibody precipitation. The precipitin line closer to the antibody well represents precipitation by C′1 of antigen-antibody complexes soluble in antibody excess. The mode of junction of complement dependent precipitin lines both in hapten and protein systems does not always represent the antigenic relationship of the molecules being compared. Keywords
