Analytical Note: An Ion-pair Chromatographic Technique for Analysis of Organic Additives in Engine Coolant

Abstract

A method for qualitative and quantitative analyses of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, tolyltriazole, and benzoic acid in engine coolant solution, using phenol as an internal standard, is described. An isocratic mixture of acetonitrile and solution of tetrabutylammonium phosphate is used with an Ultrasphere I.P. or a μ-Bondapak C₁₈ column. No sample pre-treatment is necessary. Analysis time is 10 min.
