Pathology of Experimental Ovine Leptospirosis, Leptospira Pomona Infection

Abstract
Leptospira pomona infections were produced in 10 lambs, 8 by artificial inoculation and 2 by natural transmission. The most extensive lesions were observed in the kidneys. There were macroscopic grayish-white circumscribed foci and streaks measuring from 1 to 4 millimeters in diameter. Microscopically these areas were characterized by infiltrations of lymphocytes, some plasma cells and a few macrophages. The central nervous system of 5 lambs showed one or more of the following lymphocytic infiltration in meninges and brain, hemorrhage, new capillary formation and focal increase of microglial and oligodendroglial cells.
