Paralysis of arteries by intraluminal balloon dilatation.

Abstract
The constrictive response of arterial segments following intraluminal balloon angioplasty was studied angiographically in dogs and rabbits. Following i.v. administration of vasopressin, the dilated segment showed no change in caliber, whereas the normal arterial wall contracted. One effect of angioplasty apparently is immediate and permanent damage to the muscular component of the media.
