Abstract
The authors demonstrate that the nonlinear Schrodinger equation passes the Painleve test and construct a Backlund transformation and solutions within this approach. The connection with the Hirota bilinear formalism is discussed. Also the Heisenberg ferromagnet equation which is gauge equivalent to the nonlinear Schrodinger equation is studied. Keywords
