After injection of tritiated thymidine into rats, the lipid fraction of the liver contained three times more tritium than did the nucleic acid fraction. Similar results were obtained with labelled thymine, uracil, and cytosine. The results emphasize the importance of exhaustive lipid extraction in autoradiographic studies of nucleic acid synthesis.
