Abstract
A simple manual method for measuring phosphate‐extractable sulphate in soils using basic laboratory equipment is described. Sulphate is extracted by a phosphated anion‐exchange membrane which, after elution, is measured turbidimetrically as barium sulphate. The results obtained by the proposed manual method compare well with a continuous flow analyser method using a range of Pacific Island soils. Keywords
