Abstract
A coliform organism was isolated from 19 outbreaks in turkeys on 17 ranches. Antigenic and cultural studies showed it to be a non-sucrose-fermenting paracolon designated by Edwards as type 10 and having the antigenic formula XVIII: z4 x2 x7. Symptoms and pathology resembled those seen in salmonellosis, with mortality ranging from 5 to 70 per cent. Agglutination tests conducted on survivors of outbreaks indicate that the infection is more easily aborted than is pullorum disease. Preliminary trials indicate that treatment with sulfamerazine was effective. Keywords
