Abstract
After testing many reagents for the purpose of securing a convenient and reliable colorimetric method for the identification of Citrus sp. from the standpoint of distinguishing unknown root-stocks, the Almen test for carbolic and salicylic acid is reported as giving excellent results. The reagent is added to the filtrate of a water extract of the bark. After boiling, characteristic colors are developed in the treated filtrate depending upon the nature of the bark used,[long dash]for sweet orange, Citrus sinensis, a pink, within a narrow range; for sour orange, Citrus aurantium, a brown; for grapefruit, Citrus maxima, a light pink, within a wide range; and for rough lemon, Citrus limonia, almost no color. Other supplementary methods are de scribed. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
