Abstract
Following a fluorescein injn. a patient, who had allergic rhinitis and who was undergoing specific treatment with injns. of house dust-extract, developed signs of an anaphylactic reaction with asthma, general urticaria and symptoms of shock. As the fluorescein syringes and needles had been sterilized together with other instruments, the authors believe that a certain amt. of fluroescein had inadvertently accompanied the injd. allergen extract and that the patient had thereby been sensitized to fluorescein. No earlier reports of such sensitization were found in the literature. To avoid such inadvertent sensitization, the authors suggest that syringes and needles used for the injn. of fluroescein be cleaned, sterilized and kept separate from other instruments. Keywords
