Raman scattering study of the phase transitions in pure and Ti or Ba doped PbZrO3single crystal

Abstract
Raman scattering investigations have been performed on pure PbZrO3 monocrystals as well as on solid solutions of PbZr1−xTixO3 (x=0.01) and Pb1−xBaxZrO3 (x=0.03, 0.05 and 0.07) in the temperature range (10K–700K) including the whole sequence of phase transitions. The temperature dependence of the Raman spectra in the various phases is analysed using dynamical model considerations. The specific role of the mono- or polydomain character of the samples as well as of the nature of the introduced impurities on the light scattering response is considered. The most characteristic feature in the Raman spectra concerns the occurrence of an unusual anisotropic quasi-elastic scattering in the paraelectric phase. The origin of this scattering is critically analysed.
