Abstract
Eeg of 2 human fetuses (77 days, 43-45 days of gestation) were studied to show the pattern of electrical activity as the fetal brain dies. Fetuses were removed from their environment in the mother and no attempt was made to prolong or shorten their survival. Electrical activity from the superficial (depth of 3mm) and deep (depth of 1 cm) structures are similar, namely, irregular slow waves with superimposed small fast waves. As this electrical activity disappears, paroxysms of rebound activity of a similar pattern are seen. Cerebral activity disappeared initially from the frontal areas and from superficial structures. In the younger fetuses electrical cerebral activity persisted for 88 minutes; in the older fetus, for 90 minutes. Keywords
