Abstract
Recent empirical studies of labour supply in LDC agriculture show both positive‐ and negative‐sloping curves, contrary to the traditional claims that such functions are backward‐bending. In this study, the causes for these differing results are traced empirically to the economic status of workers and the level of development of their villages, in sharp contrast to prior assertions that workers in developing nations are limited by low aspirations. Keywords
