Squamous-Cell Carcinoma of Nail Bed

Abstract
IN THE PAST ten years, over a quarter of a million patients have been admitted to five hospitals, at which medical records have been accessible to the authors (Professional Hospital and St. John's Riverside Hospital, both in Yonkers, NY; Bronx Veterans Administration Hospital, New York Hospital, and Hospital of Special Surgery, all in New York city). Only five cases of primary carcinoma of the nail bed are recorded in these hospitals (an incidence of 1 in 50,000 admissions). According to Gelmann1 only 25 cases had been described in the literature prior to the one additional case in his report. The purpose of this report is to present five additional cases and suggestions for diagnosis, pathogenesis, and treatment.
