Abstract
The feasibility of digital video recording for consumer applications has been investigated with a view to a high image quality with full PAL bandwidth. A dominant boundary condition was that there should be no loss of maximum playing-time as compared to the analog system. To meet this requirement, compression of the digitized video signal with DPCM and Hadamard Transform coding has been applied. Other requirements were the use of standard V2000 mechanics, ferrite heads and chromium-dioxide tape. Keywords
