Abstract
Early detection of motor disability in infants is important; yet, because of the lack of sufficient clinical experience, many health care professionals are not sufficiently trained in developmental assessment techniques. A computer-videodisc program was developed at the University of Iowa to address this deficiency. In order to assess the educational efficacy of this program, third year medical students were alternately assigned to treatment and non-treatment groups. The treatment group used the videodisc system during their paediatrics rotation. Both groups took a 19-item Diagnostic Skill and Knowledge test. In addition, the treatment group completed an evaluation of the videodisc program. Significantly higher scores were attained by the treatment group (p<0.0005). Furthermore, these students were positive in their ratings of the system. Keywords
