On the axiomatic justification of Dempster's rule of combination

Abstract
Within the theory of belief functions Dempster's rule of combination is of particular importance for the integration of different bodies of evidence. In this article a set of axioms is presented that uniquely determines this rule. As the axioms reflect just the intuitive idea of partially moveable evidence masses the presented results emphasize the unicity of Dempster's rule. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons. Inc.
