Abstract
Analytical and experimental investigations were made of simple or minimum manual guidance and control systems. A complete three-degree of freedom static simulator was used to study the manual attitude control of space vehicles. Major controller, display and vehicle configuration parameters were compared experimentally. The system kinematics, manual control and visual factors of space rendezvous and docking maneuvers were analyzed. Procedures for manual participation in space navigation and guidance were studied and a preliminary design of a simple computational aid was developed. The conclusions of all the studies are presented and recommendations are made for the design of manual guidance and control systems. Keywords
