Abstract
The IR and Raman Spectra of pentaiododimercurate (II) and octaiodotrimercurate (II) anionic complexes have been obtained in the solid state and interpreted in terms of halogen-bridged structures. Spectroscopic and chemical evidences support a dimeric structure for the pentaiododimercurate (II) anion. The addition of HgBr2 and HgI2 to tetraiodocadmate (II), mercurate (II) and tetrabromocadmate (II) species have also been studied. The vibrational spectra also support halogen-bridged structures for these new mixed binuclear complexes. Keywords
