PATHOLOGY OF SUBCHRONIC ATROPHY OF THE LIVER

Abstract
DETAILS fatal cases of chronic hepatitis1in Denmark during the years 1944 to 1947. The pathoanatomic picture corresponded to what was described in earlier literature as subchronic atrophy of the liver,2synonyms for which were subacute diffuse necrosis of the liver, subacute yellow atrophy of the liver, toxic cirrhosis and necrotic hepatitis. The aim of this work is to give a detailed description of the pathologic changes in the liver in this rare disease on the basis of data obtained from considerable postmortem material. We found it of interest to make a comparison with the cases of Laennec's cirrhosis in which autopsies were made during the same period, since subchronic atrophy of the liver offers clinically a number of points of similarity with Laennec's cirrhosis.
