Abstract
The configuration of a crystal is defined by way of the state of the local unit cell. It is shown that there are constraints on the variation with position of the local unit cell imposed by the nature of the crystal lattice. This analysis is used to look for textural defects. Previous homotopy group classification schemes are found to be misleading due to their ignoring the constraints mentioned above. The authors show that textures do not exist in crystals. Keywords
