Abstract
Pneumococci are especially susceptible to the action of Na oleate, linoleate, linolenate, and clupanodonate, less susceptible to the other unsaturated soaps and the hydroxylated and saturated soaps. The bile salts and Na salicylate require high concns. to kill pneumococci. The sulfate ester salts are pneumococcicidal in concns. of 0.01%. Na myristate, laurate, oleate, linoleate, linolenate, clupanodonate, rici-noleate, and abietate, and the sulfate esters, are effective in killing Streptococcus lactis. Of the compounds tested, only Na diiodosalicylate and undecylenate are effective germicides in a concn. of 1% at pH 8.0 using Escherichia coli. Na diiodosalicylate and Na undecylenate are also effective against Staphylococcus aureus at pH 8.0. Na abietate is effective above pH 8.5.This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
