Abstract
At the Yale Laboratories of Primate Biology, Orange Park, Florida, on April 11, 1935, a chimpanzee of known age and life hist. gave birth to a [male] infant, the first known 2d-generation birth in captivity. The mother became pregnant at the age of 8 yrs., 5 mo. Gestation continued for 245 [plus or minus] 5 days. Parturition was normal but parent refused to take care of the infant. He was taken away and brought up on a bottle. Records, as complete as possible, of the 3 generations are being kept as part of the program to breed and facilitate use of the chimpanzee as material for biological research.
