The Incidence of Avian Leukosis in Broilers at Processing

Abstract
A survey of the incidence of the various forms of the leukosis complex in broiler-age chickens at processing was conducted in the Delmarva and north Georgia areas. Results, based on gross lesions without histological verification, indicate an extreme variation from flock to flock in both total incidence and the form of the disease. Incidence of leukosis and of carcasses with skin lesions appears to be greater in Delmarva than in north Georgia. Approximately 74% of carcasses with skin lesions also exhibited gross lesions of leukosis in the viscera. Muscle lesions were observed only sporadically. Carcasses with skin lesions and the visceral form were predominantly females, and those with osteopetrosis were predominantly males.
