Abstract
To the Editor: Computer-assisted literature searches are sometimes the most important diagnostic studies performed for patients. Today, many physicians use the literature search as a medical decision-making tool comparable to the orthopedist's arthroscope, the gastroenterologist's endoscope, or the radiologist's CT scanner. A computer-assisted search is particularly valuable in patient care because it is designed to identify specific items of information needed for a specific patient's problem.
